Tuniq TX-4 Thermal Compound Review

Alright once again I get a chance to do some testing on a new thermal compound, and I am excited about it. Now most of you might think that being happy about working with and testing a new thermal compound might not be very fun but in the past year Tuniq has made three new generations of their TX thermal compound line and with each new generation was a drastic change effectiveness. Now i am not sure if they have actuall wizards brewing this stuff up in a giant cauldron in some dark back corner of their labs but believe me this is the best thermal compound I have seen by far. let's dive in and take a closer look at what I believe is one of the best thermal compounds available to date, or at least that I have used:

Closer Look:

The sample product that I received came in an envelope and inside was the Tuniq TX-4 thermal compound and the Tuniq TIM Spreader which where both wrapped in bubble wrap. The TX-4 Thermal compound is just like most compound syringe looking tubes that you will see. The Tuniq TIM Spreader , which almost resembles a small piece of flexible arborite counter top material, came in extremely helpful for spreading the compound perfectly even.

The Tuniq TX-4 Thermal Compound, like the Tuniq TX-3, has a high centipoises rating meaning that it takes more force than others so spread. for example room temp water has a rating of 1 centipoises where honey has a rating of 2,000, and molasses around 5,000. The Tuniq TX-3 came in at an amazing 83,500, which would explain why I had such a difficult time working with that older formula, but fortunately the Tuniq TX-4 comes in with only a rating of 66,200 centipoises.

So to sum up my little rant there, this product, at least the sample I got, came in very modest packaging and while it's more difficult to spread than other thermal compounds, this one comes with a wide paddle to spread it easily and perfectly.

  • CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition
  • CPU Cooler: Coolink Corator DS
  • MOBO: MSI 790X-G45
  • Video Card: HIS Radion HD 5770
  • RAM: 4GB of Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR3 1600
  • PSU: Kingwin Lazer 850W

Testing:

To test the Tuniq TX-4 Thermal Compound I am going to record the temps of the CPU while it is running idle and while it is running under the load of the Prime 95 Torture Test. I will also be doing this for both the stock clock of 3.4 GHs of this CPU and while Overclocked to 4.0 GHz.

Well that was un expected. I knew that the TX-4 compound was going to do better than the TX-3  but i never would have guessed that it would have been such a drastic difference. Now some of you might be like me and be looking at the numbers and saying that there is no way that those could be accurate, believe me they are I ran these tests three times changing out the thermal compound between each round of testing and the numbers always came out within a couple of degrees difference.

Conclusion:

Like I said at the start of this review, this is the best thermal compound i have had the honor of testing and now hopefully you can see why.   While Tuniq TX-4 thermal compound may be a little more difficult to spread than other compounds out there, but with the aid of the Tuniq TIM Spreader it's made so easy that there is almost no point in me bringing it up.  Also as some of you may have noticed with this compound I was able to push my system just a little harder than I could in past tests and I managed to get it up to 4.2 GHz with the tuniq TX-4 compound where as their older TX-3 would over heat and reboot before I could actually finish the tests.

So this is where I try and sell you on the idea of why you should get this particular thermal compound. but really what's the point if you want to get some of this amazing compound then you will. If you don't want to get some, go look at the temps I got with this stuff and come back and tell me why you don't want it, don't worry I'll wait........ that's what I thought there really is no good reason you can come up with to not get some of the new and improved Tuniq TX-4 thermal compound.

  • Easy to Spread (When Using the TIM Spreader)
  • Most Likely One of the Cheapest Cooling Upgrades you Could Make

 Cons:

  • Might Keep Your CPU Too Cool, wait is that really a con?
If  could give this a super platinum ninja monkey award I would but this is the closest we have..... for now.
