http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:Tgz99uyFzKqS1M:http://corporateconnection.cs.illinois.edu/images/intel-logo.jpgToday we will be embarking on an epic mission provided to us from Intel. The not so discrete package came to us a few weeks ago with the top secret instructions included.  This was by far one of the most interesting embargos we have done to date and others will be hard-pressed to compete with this interesting new way of releasing product. Come with us and fallow us through our mission and see what kind of goodies Intel has in store. Also stay tuned we will be releasing contest info sometime today (June 1st 20010) on how you can win your own Intel Mission Bundle:

Provided by: Intel

Intel 875K CPU

Intel DP55SB Motherboard

8GB Patriot Viper II Sector 5  PC3-19200 Memory

The Mission:

 Part Two:

So after the unboxing the fun began we built a very impressive build compiled of the following:

Cooler Master HAF X, Kingwin 1000W Modular PSU, For CPU Cooling we went with the Noctua NH-D14, 2x 5570's in Crossfire X, 1TB Western Digital EARS Drive, and a BluRay Burner. I would have liked to put some higher end cards in but they were indisposed at the time of testing. Either way I had a killer media, gaming, and editing platform capable of everything I wanted in a PC. Although we did a lot of playing with the system I only recorded the Bios, OC Settings, and Synthetic Benchmarks for you guys but let me just say this new platform is very snappy under Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Edition. Also I believe I say the memory is 1.56 it is actually 1.65v (Apparently I am Dyslexic)

to Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology.
Enthusiast ready

The Intel Desktop Board DP55SB Extreme Series is built around the new Intel® P55 Express Chipset, supporting both overclocked and standard Intel® Core™ i7 and Intel® Core™ i5 processors in the LGA1156 package. A revolutionary two-chip layout enables lower power consumption and more advanced performance tuning2 for smoother, more realistic gaming experiences. Intel® Extreme Memory Profiles (Intel® XMP) provide a performance-packed expansion of the standard DDR3 memory specification, hitting speeds of 16002 MHz or faster.

Built to be built

Why should comfort be limited to your favorite gaming chair? Why not begin with the build? Six SATA ports and one eSATA port offer plenty of choice and flexibility on the bench. Assemble and configure a system quickly with 90-degree rotated SATA ports and easy-to-locate, aligned front-panel headers situated at the board edge. Connect peripherals and thousands of wireless devices with less clutter thanks to an integrated Bluetooth* module.

Performance tuning for greater control

Choose manual or automatic tuning controls with an Intel-designed BIOS2—clock value presets enable quick adjustments while simple manual controls offer simple hands-on adjustments. Legendary Intel quality and reliability standards mean that hardware stability is built right in. Six-phase voltage regulators with sturdy thermal solutions and CHiL* Advanced Digital Voltage Regulator Control deliver high-speed phase control for lower, efficient, and more balanced temperatures. An onboard post code decoder LED cycles through codes for quick diagnosis and system analysis at boot. A third-generation watchdog timer supports quicker crash recovery by restoring previous safe values. And should the watchdog timer fail, an easy-to-access Back-to-BIOS switch directs the system into maintenance mode without having to open the system chassis.

Conclusion:

Although there isn't much to conclude because this was more of an experience rather than a review, the people at Intel have a winner. Even though I bottle necked just a little because of the Memory I was still able to achieve a 4 Ghz OC which is nothing to scoff at. I was also playing with the multipliers a bit more after the video and got the OC up to 4.6 pretty stable but I was only able to do this by tweaking the turbo multipliers the memory did not like going past 1600 FSB.

Geek speak aside this new setup from Intel is killer and I am sure you will love the experience for yourself. I am a big fan of the new P55 chipset and 1156 CPU's and the new 875k and DP55SB are no exception. If you are looking for an impressive media and gaming expirience and can't quite justify going to the 1366 platform then I strongly suggest getting yourself the new 875k and P55 Board.

Pros: (the mission as a whole)

  • So much more interesting than typical unboxings
  • Great products all around
  • Impressive Overclock
  • Love the case (will be using it for my on-site filming)
  • Snappy response
  • Great for Gaming
  • Great for Media
Cons:
  • Patriot memory was a little finicky compared to the Crucial ram I normally use for OC

Intel if you are listening: this was a lot of fun and we would love to see more reviews like this!

So the Intel motherboard would not allow you to run the ram at it's full
potential?
admin   |SAdministrator |2010-06-01 08:30:51
The short answer is maybe. I had some issues with the ram but the board was
unlocked so potentially if you can figure out the happy medium you should be
able to run a steady 2400 FSB
