Having music on your phone can be an enjoyable experience. Everyone likes being able to have their music with them wherever they go. A major problem with the music on your phone is that the best way to share your music is to play it through the phones speakers, and these speakers aren’t designed to play music to the depth or quality that it takes to enjoy it properly. This is why the people at Yidsun have invented the SPK-800 Bluetooth Speaker. With these speakers you can play your music load and clear using the Bluetooth function on most phones. Now let’s get to testing some of this speaker box’s functions:
Testing:

I first connected the Yidsun SPK-800 to a Blackberry Storm to see how easy it would be to connect the two devices, and second to test its functionality as a hands-free speaker box. To sync the two devices together was incredibly easy, all there was to do was to turn on the Yidsun SPK-800 and then set the Storm into search mode, and then both devices automatically connected. Next I checked how well it handled music from the phone and found that I was quite amazed. The sound quality was better than I thought it would be and much better than just listening to the music play from the phones speaker. I thought that these would be no more than a louder version of the speaker that’s already built into the phone. I was quite wrong.

While you’re not going to swap these out for your home theater speakers, or even as get rid of your desktop speakers for your PC, they make for a great option when it comes to getting your music out of your phone and to share it with others or even just to pack about as you move from room to room. While listening to my music, it suddenly paused and let me know that there was an incoming call, and with a single touch I could answer the phone and instantly enter the conversation. From my end I found that the voice that came out of the speaker was very crisp, clear, and easy to understand, (This call happened to come from a land line and I didn't get to see how well a call from cell phone came in) After hanging up my music continued as normal.

I then took it over to a friend’s to see how the conversation sounded from the other end (Again this was on a land line). While being on the phone end of the conversation I found that conversation was almost the same quality as it had earlier from the speaker, however I did find that the voice was slightly muffled, although I do. The slight dampening of the voice I put off on the poor placing of the mic, which is located on the bottom of the speaker box. When I say that the voicce sounded muffled, I would have thought that they where on a cell phone using a builtin speaker phone.

Next I connected the speaker to my PC to see how well it worked for as an external audio device. I thought that this would be an appropriate test for if someone used their laptop as a media center and wanted better speakers than the ones in the laptop. For this I wanted to see how it well it could handle the audio from different forms of media.  Of course I started with some music while I cleaned up, and was really impressed by these small, unassuming speakers. I found that like I said earlier you might not what to start swapping out your home theater system with these speakers, they did prove to be a fairly good sounding set of speakers.

After a little cleaning I decided I should sit down and see how well they would work for if someone used them to watch some TV or a movie from their Laptop. For this I have to say I was impressed. While for more action oriented videos it was a little lacking, for every other genres I found that it worked quite well, bringing much more clarity then I thought I was going to receive.

After this, I decided to connect my Voiis Stereo to my PC and start sending music via Bluetooth while I moved about cleaning some more to see what kind of range this little device had. For this I have to honestly say I was amazed. In the past I often found that soon after breaking the line of sight between Bluetooth synced devices that I would lose my signal, but these little speakers showed me another thing or two. Between the Voiis Stereo and the Yidsun SPK-800 I was able to make it about 45’ away, break the line of sight, and make it to the main floor of my house.

Now let’s get to my final thoughts:

How well did the Yidsun SPK-800 Bluetooth Speakers Perform overall? I thought that they were all right. For their size, I thought that they sounded great. Even when taken to capacity they sounded not to bad and they did perform better than stock speakers in most phones and laptops. While a little on the pricey side, I do have to say that using these with my phone was not only more enjoyable, but I still found it to be functional.

Would I recommend this? Honestly, I am undecided. Please, don't stop reading here, finish and I will tell you why. The Yidsun SPK-800 looks nice, is easy to use, and much more enjoyable then the stock speakers in most phones and laptops. However for the price I found that they were a little lacking. The easy to use controls located on the top where a bonus, but the mic is poorly placed making talking into it slightly muffled, and at the speed that they burn through 4AAA batteries is a concern, for these reasons I find it hard to recommend. However if anything in this review got your attention and you found them interesting, then I would strongly recommend watching for my review on the Yidsun SPK-796 Bluetooth Speaker which performed much better and I was very happy with them.(coming soon)

Pros:
  • Easy to use
  • Can be used as a good hands-free speaker box
  • Makes for a good external speaker for cell phones And Laptops
Cons:
  • Eats through AAA batteries like a chimp in a banana factory
