Up until recently having a server in your own home seemed ridiculous. With consoles, PC’s, and Mac all being used for media these days having different files on each platform seems pointless. Seagate has seen where the home server is heading and opted for a preemptive strike by its release of the GoFlex Series of product. These products make media sharing and file sharing simple and user friendly so you do not need a buddy with a CCNA from Cisco just to access files from a central location in your home. Today we will be taking a look at the Seagate Freeagent GoFlex Home Networking Storage System, let’s see if it is a good product for your next home networking project:

Conclusion:

I have used a lot of products in the past: NAS, Windows Server Builds, and even sharing a drive on the network. None of these options had the flexibility of the Seagate Freeagent GoFlex Home Networking Storage System, You can access it at both blindingly fast gigabit hard wired speeds and very impressive wireless N speeds. It come built in with simple one click back up of up to 3 systems and takes over normally complicated networking tasks like sharing a printer over multiple platforms. You will never have issues setting up your consoles to stream content any more either. The Seagate Freeagent GoFlex Home Networking Storage System makes networking much easier for the beginner user and the interface is not complex by any means.

Would I recommend this product? Yes, it is a great price the software is simple to use and the product is not buggy or cheaply made. Seagate put the money into R and D on the GoFlex Series and so far ever product has been very impressive and simple to use.

Pros:

  • Easy to Use
  • Very Fats Connection Speeds for Both Wired and Wireless Options
  • Great Software
  • 3 Computers or Mac's can be Backed up at the Click of a Button
  • HD Streaming

Cons:

  • Limited to Only 3 Computers
