Closer Look:
Instantly when looking at the package, I could tell that this was like nothing I had worked with before. When looking over the product I was hoping that this would be a turning point for the thermal compound future.
The backing talks about the fact that it’s made of 100% metal and that once it’s been put through a unique burn in test it will reach its peak efficacy. The back of the product also says that it can be applied to game consoles, and all current materials on the cooler market such as aluminum or copper.
Now let’s take a look at the specs and features of this product:
Specs And Features:
The following is quoted from the Coollaboratory webpage:
The Coollaboratory Liquid MetalPad ist the first heat conduction pad, which is composed of 100% metal and melts with just less heating (BurnIn-process), then it confects its superior heat transfer. It dissipates the heat fast and efficiently and needn´t hide from the best heat conduction paste. The simple, clean and fast installation turns the Liquid MetalPad into the ultimative heat conduction medium for HighEnd PCs and game consoles. The Liquid MetalPad can be used with all on the cooling market commercially available materials, for instance aluminum or copper! It doesn´t age and doesn´t have to exchange regular. The Coollaboratory Liquid MetalPad is certainly RoHS conformable and absolute nontoxic.
The Coollaboratory Liquid MetalPad is delivered in a transparent blister-package and contained depending on the variant one or several Liquid MetalPads. The Liquid MetalPads are available for CPU's (ca. 38x38mm), GPU's (ca. 20x20mm) and game consoles (ca. 42x42mm). Additionally there is a detailed printed manual included and according to the product variant a cleaning set for removal / cleaning of the contact area before and after using the Liquid MetalPad.
Coollaboratory MetalPad earns already over 24 awards of worldwide recognized and objective web- and print magazines It demonstrates the absolute reference of heat conduction pads on the High-End market for PC systems and game consoles and is a fundamental part for very quiet Silent-PCs or extreme Performance-systems. Read the impressions objective tester and assure yourself of the fact of the quality and capacity of the Coollaboratory Liquid MetalPad.

Now on to the testing:
Testing Setup:
CPU: Intel Q6600
- Motherboard: Gigabyte Motherboard
- Ram: 2x 1 GB Kingston
- OS: Windows XP Home SP3
- Video Card: ATI Redeon 2400 HD
- Power Supply: 500 W PSU
- Ambient Temp: 21º C
Testing:
I will be testing the four thermal compounds under the same conditions. The room temp will remain constant 21º C through out the tests. During the tests I will be watching the temp of my CPU while my computer is sitting idle and also under load while using Prime95.

Note: After re-running the tests for a longer period of time these are the temps we where able to pull.
While being different from anything I had used in the past, the Coollaboratory LIQUID MetalPad proved to be quite a good product. Being, bar none, the easiest thermal compound I have ever used. All there was to do was to take it out of its sleeve, put it on the CPU, and replace the heat sink. The total time of installation was 30 seconds if that. Removing the heat sink and the old paste took longer than applying the Coollaboratory LIQUID MetalPad. When all was said and done, the Coollaboratory LIQUID MetalPad was by far the fastest thermal compound I had ever used. There was almost no clean up afterward, with no worry about getting it on my fingers and then on every thing I touched after that. Now let’s wrap this up and get to my final thoughts:
Conclusion:
While I was hoping it would be the dawn of a new age with thermal compounds, it left me a little depressed. While to make it reach peak efficiency you have to do a burn in and get the CPU hot, and trust me it got HOT, but afterwards it preformed just as well as arctic silver 5.
While in the end the purchase of this product comes down to you. It doesn’t stand out from most. While being super easy to use with almost no time to install and almost no clean up. It only comes with 3 uses but it does come with smaller pads for your GPU. Another feature worth noting is that it boasts the ability to be used with any heat sink material. So if you don’t like having to work with the mess of standard thermal pastes then the Coollaboratory LIQUID MetalPad is what you are looking for.
Pros:
- Easiest thermal component I have ever used
- No Mess
- Easy Clean up
- Beat Arctic Silver
Cons:
- Burn In To Reach Peak Efficiency
- Price Doesn't Justify Switching From AS5
