Speck Candyshell Review

Few cases have generated as much hype as the Speck Candyshell. It’s hybrid silicone-hardcase design brings the best of both worlds when it comes to protection, it’s flashy color combinations are attractive to the eye, and the amount of awards it has garnered doesn’t hurt either. Though, as is true for many other heavily hyped products, the generated expectations are always hard to meet. Today we take a look at a decent case that I feel received a bit too much praise.

Conclusions:
Though this is not a bad case it’s not hard to feel a bit disappointed with it’s performance. When a case receives as much attention as Speck’s Candyshell did one expects it to be the best case they’ve ever used. It’s simply not practical to struggle as much as one does when trying to take the case off. Such an attractive case that is very scratch prone isn’t the best of combinations either. It’s also not going to be very long lasting. Notice how bright and vibrant it looks in the unboxing and how it looks more faded in the review video. This case is certainly more appealing to someone who doesn’t change cases very often and doesn’t drop their phone very much.

I would recommend this to just about anyone looking for a fashionable case that will stand out for the rest. If you can look past this case’s issues with de-installation and scratch-ability it’s almost perfect.

Pros

  • One piece design is very hard to loose
  • Very easy to install
  • Hybrid silicone-hardcase offers great protection
  • Protection for both power and volume buttons

Cons

  • Color fades and wears quite quickly
  • A bit frightening to take iPhone out of case
  • Scratches very easily
  • Bulkier than most cases
  • A bit hard to reach silent-mode button
