Koutech XRev 3.5” Hi-Speed USB 2.0 plus eSATA External Enclosure plus Card Reader plus USB 2.0 Hub Review
One of the many difficulties that anyone with a computer has to contend with is desk clutter. You have your PC, a monitor, some speakers, a printer scanner combo, and on the list goes. The point is that we have so many different choices when it comes to peripherals that they tend to take up too much space. So when a company releases a peripheral that also does the job of two others, I tend to call that a good idea. The good people at Koutech have released a HD Enclosure that also acts as a USB Hub and a Card Reader, and that’s what we are going to look at today. Click Read More for the full review.

The packaging for the Koutech 3.5” Hi-Speed USB 2.0 + eSATA External Enclosure + Card Reader + USB 2.0 Hub is simple. It features sturdy cardboard construction with a handle for easily carrying it to its new home. The front of the packaging has a graphic showing both color variants of the enclosure, one white with orange highlights and the other black with orange highlights.
The back of the package has all of the technical information pertaining to the device printed on it. Features are listed in six different languages on the left, with the specifications listed on the right in English. At the bottom are two graphics showing the different variants of the product. There is a check mark next to the black and orange one, so we know this is the variant in the box.
Once you open the box you see the HD Enclosure right away. Once you remove it, there is a separate compartment which contains everything else. There you find an instruction manual, a software mini-cd, one cable each of USB and eSATA, some mounting screws and the power adapter for the unit.
The HD enclosure itself is sharp looking. The fluted top and bottom of the enclosure call to mind a double sided razor blade. It could just be me, but I find that neat. The orange body is sandwiched between two black coated aluminum sides. One side sports a pinstriped Xrev logo, a nice touch.
The front of the enclosure is what tells you that this device is not ordinary. Instead of a minimalist approach, with one flashing light to let you know your drive is running, this enclosure has much more. Things like a Backup button, slots for 4 different memory card formats, and a 2 port USB Hub to be exact. Oh, and of course a blinking light for hard disk activity. We wouldn’t want it to feel left out.
By comparison, the back of the enclosure seems boring. Not to say that it is, but how do you follow an act like the front? It can’t be done. On the back you’ll find the power switch, one port each for USB and eSATA, as well as the socket for the power adapter. All you need to power and connect your enclosure.
Let’s take a look at the Specifications and Features.
