Thermaltake Contac 29 CPU Cooler Review

With so many CPU coolers available on todays market you really need to consider your choice carefully, and since we get to play with them for free that’s why we try and help to narrow down the difficult choice you have to make. Now in the past I have been skeptical of some coolers even before testing them simply because how could a small cooler provide as much cooling as a large cooler. Well I have to say that in almost all cases I was corrected in my thinking and was reminded that it is always the little things that I forget to consider in a CPU coolers abilities. Let’s take a closer look at some of the things that make the small Thermaltake Contac 29 cooler keep up with some of the larger coolers out there.

As usuall I will be recording this coolers average temps of both while its running idle and while running under the load of Prime 95’s Torture Test. This will be done for both stack clock of 3.4 GHzand while overclocked to 4.0 GHz. This room will remain a constant 17 °C (62.6 °F).

So after that is good to see that this smaller cooler could stand up to the much larger cooler while running idle but unfortunately it fell a little short when it was overclocked but really what do you expect this cooler is almost half the size of the other cooler. Also something to note is that during testing there was only one fan attached so the addition of a second fan could further reduce the temp of the cooler.


In the end I found that this was a good cooler. What it lacked in size it made up for in efficiency. While it might not have been the best overclocking CPU cooler it stood its ground and proved that even little coolers can still provide good heat dispersion.

Another great thing about this cooler is that it fits a wide arrange of socket types out there and is incredibly easy to take in and out of most systems, and hopefully will be future proof so you won’t have to buy a new cooler with your next rig.

Something that I found a little annoying was the fact that I had a hell of a time trying to mount this cooler into my Intel rig. Because of how close the legs are when placed to fit into a LGA 775 Socket the legs are placed right under the corners of the fan(s). However this issue really doesn’t mean much to most because you’re most likely not going to be switching you CPU Coolers as often as I do.

o in the end what did I think? I think that this is a great little cooler for modest systems. While for some this cooler might not provide the cooling they need (I am talking to you overclockers), this is still a great cooler for just about every other system out there, especially seeing as how it performed just as well with the CPU set to stock settings. What I am really trying to say is, if you need a massive monster cooler because you are overclocking the crap out of you CPU, you should look elsewhere. For just about everyone else this is a great cooler for such amazingly low price sticker.
