To test the Verbatim 160GB USB Portable Hard Drive I will be putting it up against some other enclosures. The enclosures it will be put up against will be against the CP Technologies CP-USH-300 and CP-UE-225. I will use a free benchmarking tool called HD Tune, I will also use a stop watch to time the file transfers of three different sized files being, 10 MB, 100 MB, and 500 MB.

 HD Tune:

From these tests we can see that all of the enclosures proved to work almost equally well. These tests are more to see if the enclosure itself has any flaws which we can see that the Verbatim 160GB USB Portable Hard Drive does not. We see that it might have had a lower minimum, and average transfer rates, but it led the pack in every other category.

Now let’s get to my final thoughts:

So how well did the Verbatim 160GB USB Portable Hard Drive do? In the end I was surprised. In the past I sometimes found that some enclosures that came with their storage device hard mounted weren’t as good as enclosures where you had to buy a hard drive to install inside. Overall this ended up being a good enclosure. With its slim, sleek design, it makes a great enclosure for the person who is on the go, and needs there data to be with them.

Would I recommend this product? In a word, yes. The silver model can be ordered with one of four different size hard drives, and Verbatim makes these cases in six different colors, some with different size hard drive options. Overall the Verbatim 160GB USB Portable Hard Drive makes a great Idea for most people. Seeing as how most enclosures can run from$10-$30 plus, and then you also have to buy a hard drive separate. This 160GB enclosure runs from $60-$75 for both enclosure and hard drive, which instantly makes it a fairly good deal. In the end this would be a good buy for almost anybody that either has data that they need to backup, or have files that need to travel with them.
